Aircraft Pilots Chair Royal Navy Westland Wasp Helicopter
An original pilots chair from a Royal Navy Westland Wasp helicopter. This chair has a rotating base and all new leather cushions. The Westland Wasp was the naval version of the Westland Scout army helicopter and it had wheels on the undercarriage to allow it to be moved on a ships deck.
It was used by the the navies of several countries.
This one is marked with inspector stamps for F8 which means it was made by Fairey aviation for Westland.
This chair has an aluminium base with five spokes like helicopter rotor blades.
The chair was originally bolted to the stepped cockpit floor so we have added a stepped 10mm aluminium base to compensate for the floor height change. The chair is held to the base using 4 quick release pins so there is no holes/changes to the chair and it is as it came from service.
The black leather cushions are flame retardant and have FR labels as required by new legislation. We have made them to match the design of original cushions.
The paint on the aluminium of the chair is the original grey from when it was in service and there is some slight corrosion that shows as patina on it. There is also a hand painted 617 on the inside of the chair back that suggests it came from a known aircraft that was in service with the Navy (XV631) and which went into the sea in the Indian Ocean before being recovered and back into service. This aircraft is now in a museum and has both seats so this may have been removed earlier in its career.
It rotates freely and is comfortable to sit in as there is a slight rake to the seat back. The seat height is not adjustable and the seat back does not move.
It is the Pilots as the helicopter pilot sat on RHS and this is the RHS seat as it is slightly different to the LHS seat in design. The Wasp seat is also deeper than that of the Westland Scout and Skeeter.
Perfect for the office, corner or gaming.
Seat width is 48 cm and seat base is 77 cm.
